Whole-house humidification works so effectively, because they mount directly to your furnace and work with your heating and cooling system to distribute moisture throughout your entire home. Accordingly, the installation involves working with ductwork to connect the humidification to the airflow. You will need to cut sheet metal on the furnace to mount the humidifier and/or cut ductwork on the supply or return ducts. Installation also requires wiring power to the humidification and control (humidistat). If you are an accomplished do-it-yourselfer and you carefully follow the detailed instructions, this should be an installation you can complete in 2-3 hours.
